72-hour Backpack

The 72 hour backpack is exceptionally well made. The materials feel premium, robust and clearly designed to last, and the overall construction inspires confidence from the moment you pick it up.

It is very comfortable to wear, even when fully packed, although when loaded heavily it can become quite weighty. In those circumstances it pairs well with a wheeled suitcase, but equally it remains perfectly usable on its own.

The front laptop compartment is a standout feature. It makes airport security and passport control significantly easier, particularly for frequent travellers who value speed and organisation. Access is intuitive and well thought through.

The colour and overall design are elegant and understated, and several colleagues have commented on how smart it looks in a professional setting.

Overall this is an excellent backpack that balances style, practicality and build quality extremely well. It is clearly designed by people who understand how people actually travel.

This is my first piece of Carl Friedrik. Love my Rimowa, and Tumi, but learned about Carl Friedrik through YouTube and of course Succession. I agree with the other reviews that this is a BIG bag, with big capacity. It's also solidly built, and holds its shape. And it has useful pockets, while still maintaining a sleek appearance. All good.

Two things I'll note FWIW. The bag has a distinct smell. I bought it a couple of weeks before a trip, and I had to put it in a separate room to "off-gas." I even put it in the back seat, and drove it around with the windows open. If you are sensitive to smell, don't plan to use this right away for a long flight! And the nylon interior -- especially for the laptop pocket -- is pretty industrial. Doesn't feel as expensive or refined as I would expect at this price point. Probably very durable, but not elegant. Zipper pulls also look a little cheap. Oh, and I wish it came with a luggage tag! (It has a loop, and all of my Tumi backpacks came with luggage tags, but not this bag) I'll need to try and match this somehow....

Those quibbles aside, this is a solid, good-looking bag. Definitely one I'd buy again, and am looking forward to adding their Palissy Weekend bag next!
